English Heritage – National Review of Research Priorities for Urban Parks, Designed Landscapes and Open Spaces

The report provides a précis of recent research in the field of urban parks, designed landscapes and open spaces. Rather than attempting to evaluate the myriad management strategies employed in parks over the past two centuries, it focuses on research into the history and historical context of these sites and their historical and contemporary significance.  The report also explores the difficulty surrounding open space typologies and the policy conflicts and contradictions affecting green spaces since the 1970s, and provides a summary of priorities for research, protection and management, and dissemination of research and guidance.
