Green Flag Award

The Green Flag Award scheme is the national standard for parks and green spaces across England and Wales. The award is managed by The Civic Trust on behalf of CABE Space, and it has backing in England from Communities and Local Government, English Heritage, The Countryside Agency and English Nature, and in Wales, the Countryside Council for Wales, Design Commisison for Wales, Environment Agency Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government.

The Green Flag Award Scheme was launched in 1996 with the first awards made in 1997. The scheme has now been running for 12 years with a record 1013 sites achieving the Award (including Green Pennant) this year.

55 Awards were achieved by local authorities and other organisations in the West Midlands region this year, up from 42 in 2008/09.
